Tips for Making a Successful Resume
• Determine your objective of job search and the position you are applying for. Structure and Map your resume accordingly.
• Make sure your objective relates to the position you are responding to. (If you are looking for different jobs, have more than one resume targeting the position you are responding to).
• Use a simple language and consistent format with font size not less than 10 pt.
• Mentioning details of where you can be reached (Phone No., E-mail ID and Address) in the starting of your resume is a good way of getting clicked fast.
• Start with your most recent job and work backwards.
• Be specific about your job functions and identify any major accomplishments. Remember to keep your descriptions short and to the point (use bullet points).
• Next, mention your qualification with the highest degree achieved first and work backwards. A excel table would be more precise way of doing it.
• Mentioning your strengths, skills and interests is good way of showing your potential.
• Do mention your references. This causes the reader to infer that you are recommended and are clean and clear in your work attitude.
• Do not lie on your resume. Most companies will check your background.
• Make sure you do not have any spelling, punctuation, typos or grammatical mistakes. Have someone else proofread your resume.

Interview Tips

• Always be prepared. Have some basic knowledge of the company and the job you are applying for.
• Dress appropriately.
• Have prepared questions to ask the interviewer.
• If you fill out an application make sure your information is correct. Do not lie on an application. Make sure your past dates of employment are correct. Most companies will perform reference checks.
• Turn your cell phone off.
• Keep your answers to questions short and to the point. Don't elaborate on anything unless you are asked.
• Arrive on time or a few minutes early.
• Greet your interviewer with a smile and firm handshake.
• Do not chew gum.
• Sit upright when interviewed and try to keep eye contact.
• Don't make any negative comments about past employers.
• Your first interview is not the time to ask about salary, benefits, vacations etc. If you are asked about salary, tell them what you earned in the past. Don't lock yourself out of a job by demanding too much money.
• Remember to have enthusiasm and confidence but don't overdo it!
